General maintenance
You should check the notice boards regularly for information, news and instructions from the residence management. These often refer to such things as general check-ups on the safety of electric appliances, repair and maintenance work, cleaning done for the whole residence at one particular time (for example window cleaning, where the practice is for all the windows in rooms on one floor to be cleaned on a certain day or sequence of days) or inspections of rooms prior to the end of semester. Notice is given three days in advance for these kinds of activities.
Please take into account that the maintenance and cleaning ladies possess keys for student rooms, so you should not be surprised when an activity of the type listed above has been announced, the people responsible knock on the door and enter your room in order to do their work.

Bed sheets and towels
Sheets will be there on the bed in your room when you start your stay at the residence. Bed sheets are changed every three weeks, with one specific day being assigned for this – information is available at the reception desk. If you have brought your own bed sheets, you should keep the bed sheets of the halls of residence in your room, not return them: the residence management has a strict policy that at the end of the semester students must leave their rooms in exactly the same state as at the beginning. Note that towels are not supplied.

Laundry
Washing machines and tubs are in laundry rooms in all halls of residences. You will need coupons for 60 CZK that you can buy at the reception. The laundry room is called "prádelna" and is accessible without having to use a key to enter. When using the washing machine, check first whether the machine is in order. If you notice some damage, make a note in the book of damages.

Hygiene and tidiness
The cleaning of rooms is the responsibility of each student. This includes taking the waste out to the containers (and not depositing it somewhere else, such as the corridors, landings etc.), which are found outside the buildings towards the rear. Once a month the housekeeping staff apply disinfectants in the rooms. Details when this will take place are posted on the notice board; this information is also available in English. A cleaning agency is responsible for cleaning the communal areas.

Electrical appliances
To prevent fires, please remember to turn off all electrical appliances when leaving your room or any other residence premises.

Defects and repairs
There is a book available at the reception desk ("Kniha závad", literally "Book of Damages") in which you can write down details of repairs that need to be done in your room when something starts leaking, stops working, falls apart, breaks down completely, etc. The preferred language is Czech (the student tutors or Czech students will help out), but English is possible in a pinch. The maintenance staff checks the book regularly.

Kitchen utensils and electric appliances
Students must supply themselves with kitchen utensils. There are some left by students from the previous semesters so you can get them during the orientation week in Second hand market (see the programme of orientation week). You can borrow them. If you want to use your own electric appliances (e.g. electric kettle, microwave, tape recorder, CD player) inform the accommodation assistant, in her office hours. You will have to pay a fixed fee to cover the higher consumption of electricity each month. This does not apply for computer, refrigerator, shaver and hair dryer. It is possible to borrow an iron and a vacuum cleaner at the front desk.

Telephones / Payphones
There are no telephones in the rooms but payphones are widely available. There is a message intercom system in the halls of residence that relays messages to individuals over a loudspeaker (in Czech language). If there is something important, they call out for your name and room number, if so, please answer the request and go to the reception.

Guests
It is possible to have a parent or a friend over for one or more nights under the following conditions:
- you are responsible for your guests and should inform them about the accommodation regulations.
- your guest may use the bed of the student who shares the room with you and leaves for a weekend or for a certain period of time. You need to have a written consent of the given student (will be handed in at the reception), price 75 CZK per one night, payment to the receptionist who will distribute clean bed sheets
- your guest may use a bed in your room which has not been occupied by anyone. In this case price 150 CZK per one night for short-term guest stays. As for longer-term guest stays, current monthly housing prices apply

Nighttime
From the point of view of Czech law and the concept of creating a nuisance (in the legal sense), "night" runs from 10 pm/22:00 to 6 am/6:00 and applies all seven days of the week (i.e. no "late-night" exceptions on Fridays or Saturdays).
For this reason, after 10 o'clock in the evening you are asked to turn down the volume of your TVs and other audiovisual appliances, as neighbours might not be too happy about sharing your favourite TV programmes, music and so on. What is more, they could have a legal basis to complain.

Parties
There is a common room S3 in the basement in the block A1 at the Vinařská premises that is suitable for parties or other gatherings for largish numbers of people. Celebrations and events of this kind should be however organised with the respect to nighttime policy! Upon request of a member of the dormitory council, you are obliged to show your ID and prove your identity. Remember to clean up the premises after you have finished.
It is forbidden to have parties in corridors as well as in rooms.

Smoking
There is a strict no-smoking policy in all the premises of MU halls of residence. The only exceptions are mezzanine between the floors, each of which has its own restricted smoking area.

When things get out of hand
If there is a serious breach of the MU residence regulations, or of the laws in force in the Czech Republic concerning nighttime behaviour (see above), the residence management will call in a security agency to "restore order". Upon request of a member of the dormitory council, you are obliged to show your ID and prove your identity. Any student found responsible for causing a nuisance leading to this action will be required by the residence management to pay the expenses entailed in calling the security agency to the residence.

Breach of regulations
Should you be involved in a serious breach of the MU residence regulations and/or the Czech laws concerning nuisance activities at nighttime, the residence management will send you a warning. If there is a second offence, your residence accommodation contract will be cancelled and you will be expelled from the halls of residence. Finding replacement accommodation will be entirely your own responsibility.
